Built in Britain
Driven for Fun
The MOKE story began over 60 years ago – from its early days as a British military prototype to becoming one of the world’s most recognisable leisure vehicles. The MOKE has evolved into a symbol of freedom, sunshine and effortless fun.
Today, MOKE International continues a new chapter: fully electric, beautifully engineered, and proudly built in Britain.
Where MOKE Began
The Mini Moke was first introduced by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) in the 1960s as a vehicle codenamed “Buckboard” – a lightweight, parachute-droppable air utility vehicle solution for the British Army. However, it didn’t quite make the cut.
With the success of the Austin Mini, also designed by Sir Alec Issionis, Mini Moke switched from military brass to rockstar royalty – famously beloved by the Beatles, and Bridget Bardot. A MOKE also featured in ‘The Prisoner’ starring Patrick McGoohan, a vehicle which later sold at auction in 2021 for £69,750.

A New MOKE Era
Following a complete redesign by acclaimed British designer Michael Young, MOKE was reborn in 2018, as MOKE International, at which time production recommenced in Europe.
The reimagined MOKE remained faithful to its origins and iconic design, whilst integrating a new four-cylinder fuel injection engine and upgraded suspension and braking, with the option of either manual or automatic transmission.

The Electric MOKE
In 2022, MOKE International launched the Electric MOKE, becoming the first automotive brand from the 1960s to go fully electric.
Designed and manufactured exclusively in the UK, the MOKE is an electric vehicle made for a global audience, those who have time to slow down and enjoy life’s journey.
The original MOKE still guides everything we build today. It’s all part of the MOKE DNA.
